Jon Newman begins his second year with the Grand Valley State baseball program after spending the 2017-18 campaign as an assistant coach at Central Michigan University. In addition to being the first-base coach on game day for the Lakers, Newman will coach the catchers and coordinate all GVSU Laker Baseball Camps.

Newman was a four-year performer (2012-2106) at Spring Arbor (Mich.) University where he earned All-Crossroads League honors for the back-to-back league champions in 2014 and 2015. Newman also earned Crossroads League academic plaudits. After graduating from Spring Arbor he spent one year as a student assistant baseball coach in the program.Â
