Late Winner Fuels #11 Lakers Past Parkside Sunday

KENOSHA, Wis. – The No. 11 Grand Valley State women's soccer team scored the go-ahead goal with 20 second left to defeat Parkside 2-1 on the road Sunday (Sept. 27) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 6-1-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the GLIAC.

GVSU opened the scoring in the eighth minute to take an early 1-0 lead. Vesna Dennison scored her team leading fifth goal of the season with the assists by Ava Kozak and Lina Rea. After getting multiple chances in the box, Rea made a pass back to Kozak to the right side of the box. Kozak then made a great pass across to Dennison in the middle of the box who kicked it home with the right foot for the first goal of the game.

The Lakers would take the lead into halftime leading 7-2 in shots. In the second half, Parkside would find the equalizer in the 71st minute to tie the game at one. With under a minute to go in the game, Cole Lance made a great pass for Fromm who made a great run past the defender and was able to get a shot past the keeper and into the short right corner of the goal with just 20 seconds remaining. That goal was Fromm's first of the season.

GVSU outshot Parkside 20-11 and 8-7 in shots on goal. Fromm scored the game-winning goal and led the team with three shots with two on target. Kozak dished out an assist and recorded three shots. Dennison notched a goal on three shots with one on frame. Kendall Aikens added two shots, while Acadia Murphy, Ana Spaine, Danielle Aitken, and Rachael Wright played all 90 minutes in the win. Macie Hunter got the start and made a season high six saves.

GVSU will be on the road for one game before returning home for senior day next Sunday. The Lakers will travel to Davenport on Friday, October 2nd at 11:00 AM and will host Roosevelt on Sunday, October 4th at 1:00 PM. Both games will be streamed live on FloCollege.
