#7 GVSU Claims 4-2 GLIAC Victory Over Parkside

#7 Grand Valley State claimed a 4-2 GLIAC win over Parkside at the GVSU Baseball Field Thursday (April 30) afternoon. GVSU improves to 38-8 overall and 17-4 in GLIAC action. The Lakers and Rangers will play a Friday (May 1) doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

Starting pitcher Collin Bradley worked through a quick top of the first inning, retiring Parkside on eight pitches. GVSU pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fist with two, two-out RBI singles. Senior 1B Jovan Gill reached on a fielder's choice and junior 3B Caleb Estrada was hit by a pitch. Freshman C Noah Brandt and senior 2B Ayden VanEnkevort came through with RBI singles to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead. 

Gill led off the bottom of the third with a solo shot to right, his 11th home run of the year and 22nd in his career. VanEnkevort singled and went to third on a double to right off the bat of CF Jake Skaggs. VanEnkevort scored on a wild pitch to up the Laker advantage to 4-0. 

Parkside scored its only two runs in the top of the fourth on the only three hits they managed in the game. 

Bradley improved to 9-0 on the year and 24-7 in his career, yielding two runs on three hits with five strikeouts in6.0 innings. Keagan Bobbitt pitched 1.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts and Ethan Houghtaling went the final 1.1 innings with two strikeouts, picking up his fourth save of the year. Bradley, Bobbitt and Houghtaling did not allow a hit in the final 5.1 innings. 

VanEnkevort was 3-for-4 with a triple, one RBI and one run scored, while RF Nolan Alvord was 2-for-3 with a walk. Gill was 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Brandt was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Skaggs hit his 10th double of the season.
