Lakers Split at SVSU Saturday

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Grand valley State softball team split a GLIAC doubleheader at Saginaw Valley State Saturday (Apr. 25) afternoon. The Lakers move to 23-21 on the season and 13-9 in the GLIAC after winning game one 3-2 before losing game two 10-0.
 
In game one, Saginaw Valley State got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run to left field. GVSU would tie the game in the fifth inning off a two-run double by Eliana Eiland to score Jasmine Mauk and Brynn Taliercio. The Lakers would take a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning off a Saginaw Valley State error that allowed Elizabeth Wesoloski to score. 
 
Wesoloski batted 2-2 with a double while scoring the game winning run. Eiland drove in two runs with a double, while Jasmine Mauk and Brynn Taliercio each added a run scored and hit. Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and earned the win to improve to 10-4 on the season after tossing all seven innings allowing two runs off seven hits with four strikeouts. 
 
In game two, Saginaw Valley State scored five runs in the first inning off an RBI single to center field followed by a grand slam home run. The Cardinals would score one run in the third inning and four runs in the fifth inning to claim the mercy rule win. Eiland notched two hits while Grace Usher, Camryn Hall, and Mauk each picked up a hit.
 
GVSU will close out the weekend on the road tomorrow (Apr. 26) against Wayne State in a GLIAC doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 12:00 PM in Detroit, Michigan. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
