CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Grand valley State softball split a GLIAC doubleheader at Davenport Sunday (Apr. 12) afternoon. The Lakers move to 19-19 on the season and 9-7 in the GLIAC after winning game one 4-1 and falling 9-5 in game two.
Game One – W, 4-1
GVSU opened the scoring in the second inning with two runs.
Jenna Ballard singled to left field to bring home
Karli Dorr for the first run of the game. Later in the inning,
Eliana Eiland drove in Ballard with a single to center field to make it 2-0 GVSU. Davenport scored their lone run of the game in the fourth inning to cut the Laker lead in half. GVSU would score two insurance runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-1 lead.
Faith Edwards reached on an error by the Davenport right fielder which allowed Eiland to score. Next batter,
Grace Usher hit a sacrifice bunt to score
Camryn Hall from third.
Jenna Ballard batted 3-4 with two doubles, one RBI, and one run scored. Cmaryn Hall went 2-3 at the plate with two stolen bases, a run scored, and one walk.
Eliana Eiland and
Grace Usher each added a hit and RBI.
Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and earned the win to improve to 8-3 on the season after tossing all seven innings just one run with 10 strikeouts.
Game Two – L, 9-5
Davenport got on the board first with three runs in the first inning. The Panthers hit a two-run home run to left field and a solo home run to left field. GVSU would score two runs in the third inning to make it a one-run game.
Camryn Hall reached base on a fielding error by Davenport which allowed
Eliana Eiland to score. Two batters later,
Grace Usher hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home
Jasmine Mauk from third. Davenport answered with three runs in the bottom half of the third to take a 6-2 lead. The Panthers singled to left field to make it 4-2 followed by a two-run home run to left field.
The Lakers would score one run in the fourth and sixth inning to make it a 6-4 game.

Carsyn Segorski. In her next at bat, Mauk launched a double to left center in the sixth inning to score Eiland from first base. Davenport added three insurance runs with a three-run home run in the sixth inning to make it 9-4.
Kylee Hoebeke would launch a solo home run to center field for her third of the season in the seventh inning.
Jasmine Mauk batted 3-3 at the plate with a double, two RBI, and a run scored.
Kylee Hoebeke went 2-4 with a home run, RBI, and run scored.
Jenna Ballard notched two hits while
Eliana Eiland scored two runs.
