BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Valley State softball team fell to Ferris State Saturday afternoon in Big Rapids. The Lakers fall to 18-18 on the season after losing 6-5 in game one and 7-5 in game two.
Game One – L, 6-5 (8-Innings)
GVSU opened up the scoring in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Grace Usher drove in one run followed by a
Kylee Hoebeke RBI single later in the inning to make it 2-0. The Bulldogs would get on the board in the second inning with a solo home run to right field. The Lakers would increase the lead in the fifth inning with a two-run single by
Faith Edwards to make it 4-1 GVSU.
Ferris State would make it 4-2 in the sixth inning on an RBI double to center field. The Lakers would answer with an RBI infield single by Usher in the seventh inning to make it 5-2 GVSU. Ferris State would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning to make it 5-5 and would walk it off in the eighth inning to claim the game one win.
Game Two – L, 7-5
Ferris State would take an early 1-0 lead off a solo home run to left field in the first inning. GVSU would answer with a four-run third inning.
Faith Edwards got GVSU on the board with a walk with the bases loaded to tie the game at one. Later in the inning,
Elizabeth Wesoloski singled to left field to score
Carsyn Segorski. Usher would reach on a fielder's choice and Hoebeke would single to left field to make it 4-1 GVSU.
Ferris State would respond with an RBI single in the third inning to make it 4-2. The Bulldogs would make it a one-run game in the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field and would tie the game at four off an RBI single to center field. Ferris State would take the lead with a three-run home run in the sixth inning. GVSU would score one run on a
Jenna Ballard fielder's choice in the seventh inning.
