Men's Golf One Shot Back Of The Lead After Day One In South Carolina

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Grand Valley State men's golf team got their spring season underway today, playing two rounds at the Greenwood Invitational, hosted by Lander University. After those 36 holes, the Lakers sit one stroke back of the lead going into tomorrow's final round.

Flagler leads the way at -13, just one stroke above GVSU, who carded rounds of 279 (-9) and 285 (-3), to finish the day at twelve under. Barton is third at eight under par, followed by Anderson at -5 in fourth, and Findlay is fifth, shooting five under.
 
Bryce Wheeler is tied for first after shooting rounds of 70 (-2) and 67 (-5). The senior is at seven under, sinking nine birdies and an eagle in his two rounds. Two shots back of Wheeler is Andrew Gwilliams, who is in a tie for third with a score of five under. He carded rounds of 66 (-6) and 73 (+1) with 10 birdies and an eagle. Manuel Cue Vargas finished at one under after making six birdies and an eagle in his rounds of 71 (-1) and 72 (E), ending in a tie for 19th. After rounds of 72 and 73, Maverick Conaway is tied for 34th at one over, as he made five birdies on the day. Making four birdies today was Charlie Cooley, who is tied for 54th at +4, shooting rounds of 72 and 76 (+4).
 
GVSU will tee off at 9:00 tomorrow morning, paired with Flagler, Barton, and Anderson for the final 18 holes.
