#2 GVSU Wins GLIAC Tournament Championship

ALLENDALE, MICH. – For the fourth straight season, the Grand Valley State women's basketball team are GLIAC Tournament Champions. The Lakers led wire-to-wire to claim an 83-66 victory over Ferris State. GVSU will enter the Midwest Regional Tournament with a record of 30-1. This is the fifth straight season that the Lakers have reached at least 30 victories.
 
Five straight points from MacKenzie Bisballe got the Lakers started this afternoon, setting off a 7-0 run to begin the game. After a Bulldog bucket, Bisballe and Lexi Plitzuweit hit back-to-back triples, then Bisballe had another three-point play as part of an 11-0 run to push the lead to 18-2. The two teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter, ending with GVSU up 28-11.
 
An 8-2 Ferris State run got them within 11 early in the second quarter, but a layup from Bisballe and a three-pointer from Avery Zeinstra quickly ended that spurt. With 2:41 to play in the half, the Bulldogs again cut their deficit to 11, but GVSU with a 10-0 run to close out the half leading 49-28.
 
The second half started with a triple from Lexi Plitzuweit, which was quickly followed by one from Paige VanStee. The Bulldogs briefly got within 20 points late in the quarter, but GVSU responded with the final four points of the quarter, going up 69-56 heading into the fourth.
 
Grand Valley State stretched their lead up to as much as 25 points four minutes into the fourth quarter following a free throw from Ava Scanlon. Ferris State would make one final push, going on a 9-0 scoring run, but Bisballe added her second and-1 play of the game to end the run and seal the win for GVSU.
 
Tournament MVP MacKenzie Bisballe totaled a game-high 25 points, shooting 10-19 from the field, adding eight rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. Lexi Plitzuweit had 12 points, five assists, four boards, and three steals. Molly Anderson and Avery Zeinstra each scored 10 points, with All-Tournament team member Nicole Kamin recording 10 rebounds, six points, and five assists.
