GVSU advanced to the semifinal round after defeating Wayne State 81-67 Wednesday night in Allendale.
David Wilkerson scored a career high 25 points while
Mason Docks added 20 points and three assists. The Lakers improved to 23-6 on the season and 4-3 in the postseason under head coach
Cornell Mann.
The Lakers are 31-20 in program history in the GLIAC tournament and 10-6 in the semifinal round. This will be the 11
thmeeting between GVSU and Michigan Tech in the GLIAC tournaments with the Huskies leading the series 8-2. The last time the two programs faced each other in the GLIAC tournament was in the 2024 quarterfinal round where GVSU defeated the Huskies 79-76 in Allendale.
Michigan Tech defeated Davenport 72-70 at home in the GLIAC quarterfinals for their fourth consecutive win. The Huskies are 26-5 on the season and finished tied for first place in the GLIAC standings with Northern Michigan with a 16-4 mark. Michigan Tech is led by Marcus Tomashek who ranks third in the GLIAC and 17
th nationally averaging 21.1 points and leads his team dishing out 86 assists.
GVSU swept the regular season against Michigan Tech this season. The Lakers claimed a 79-75 win in Houghton on January 2
nd and a 55-46 win in Allendale on January 31
st. This will be the 103
rd all-time meeting between the two programs with GVSU leading the series 54-48. The two teams are both ranked in the top eight in the NCAA Midwest regional rankings. Michigan Tech was ranked as the top seed while GVSU was ranked number four in the region.
