ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team swept Davenport on two walk-off singles Saturday (Mar. 28) afternoon at the GVSU Softball Field. The Lakers improve to 13-13 on the season and 3-1 in the GLIAC.
Game One – W, 4-3 (Eight Innings)
Davenport opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on a bases loaded walk to take an early 1-0 lead. GVSU quickly responded with one run to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning.
Kylee Hoebeke singled through the right side to bring home
Camryn Hall. The Panthers would retake the lead in the third inning on a two-run triple to right field to take a 3-1 lead. The Lakers would tie the game at three in the fifth inning on a
Grace Usher two-run double to right field to score Hall and
Faith Edwards. The Lakers would walk it off in the bottom of the eighth inning on a single with the bases loaded by
Elizabeth Wesoloski to score
Carsyn Segorski.
Camryn Hall batted 3-4 with two runs scored.
Grace Usher went 2-4 at the plate with a double and two RBI.
Elizabeth Wesoloski drove in the game winning run and walked twice.
Faith Edwards notched a hit and scored a run.
Karli Dorr got the win in the circle and tossed five innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts.
Game Two – W, 5-4
Davenport again got off to a fast start scoring two runs in the first inning. The Panthers scored both of their first inning runs on two passed balls. The Lakers responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at two.
Camryn Hall led the inning with a single followed by a
Faith Edwards walk and
Elizabeth Wesoloski hit by pitch to load the bases. Two batters later,
Kylee Hoebeke singled down the left field line to tie the game at two.
The Panthers would score two runs in the fourth inning on a two-run double to right center to take a 4-2 lead. GVSU would have an answer again with two runs in the fifth inning to tie the game at four.
Grace Usher and Hoebeke hit back-to-back singles with one out. Two batter later with two outs,
Liv Regenfuss doubled to left field to score the pinch runner
Kenedy Coombe and Hoebeke to tie the game. The Lakers would keep Davenport off the scoreboard and would head to the bottom of the seventh tied at four.
Eliana Eiland led the inning with a single to right field. Regenfuss advanced Eiland to second with a sacrifice bunt. Next batter,
Jenna Ballard singled to left center to score Eiland from second to walk it off for the Lakers.
Kylee Hoebeke batted 2-4 with two runs batted in and a run scored.
Carsyn Segorski and
Eliana Eiland notched two hits while Eiland scored the game winning run.
Camryn Hall added two hits and a run scored, while
Liv Regenfuss added a double with two RBI and a walk.
Allison Wright got the win in the circle after tossing three scoreless innings of relief with three strikeouts.
GVSU will close the home weekend with a doubleheader against rival Ferris State. First pitch for game one is set for 1:00 PM at the GVSU Softball Field. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
