FRANKLIN, Wis. – The Grand Valley State softball team opened GLIAC play with a doubleheader split at Parkside Saturday (Mar. 21) afternoon. The Lakers won game one 9-1 and fell in game two 2-0 to move to 10-12 on the season.
Game One – W, 9-1
Elizabeth Wesoloski put the Lakers in front early with a solo home run to left center in the first inning. GVSU would add to the lead with a three-run third inning to take a 4-0 lead.

MaryJane Goodman brought home Wesoloski on a sacrifice fly and
Eliana Eiland hit a double down the left field line to score
Grace Usher. Wesoloski drove in her second run of the game in the fourth inning with an infield single to make it 5-0.
GVSU would tack on four runs in the seventh inning to take a commanding 9-0 lead. Hoebeke notched her second RBI single of the game that scored
Kenedy Coombe. Next batter, Goodman singled through the left side to bring home
Carsyn Segorski. Later in the inning,
Jasmine Mauk and
Brynn Taliercio drove in a run each to put the Lakers up nine.
Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and struck out a career high 12 Parkside batters allowing just one run off five hits.
Faith Edwards went 3-4 at the plate with two doubles and two runs scored.
Kylee Hoebeke had three hits; two runs batted in and a run scored.
Elizabeth Wesoloski batted 2-2 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Grace Usher had three hits and a run scored while
Eliana Eiland added two hits, one double, one run scored and a stolen base.
Game Two – L ,2-0
Parkside scored both of their runs off solo home runs in the first and fourth innings.
Nevaeh Ingram got the start in the circle and allowed two runs off five hits with eight strikeouts.
Faith Edwards had two hits while
Eliana Eiland notched a triple and a stolen base.
GVSU will close the opening weekend of conference play on the road tomorrow (Mar. 22) against Roosevelt. First pitch for game one is set for 2:00 PM ET in Rosemont, Illinois. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
