For the fifth straight season, the Lakers will be playing in the Midwest Regional Championship game, looking to win their third regional title in that span. This season, GVSU is 32-1 overall, winners of 11 straight games this year, and eight straight NCAA Tournament contests dating back to last season.

So far in the tournament, GVSU has defeated Maryville 83-50 in the opening round, then took down Wayne State 90-70 Saturday night in the semifinals. Over the two games, MacKenzie Bisballe has averaged 21 points and 9.5 rebounds, hitting 64% from the field. Paige VanStee is scoring 16 points a game and Nicole Kamin is putting up 15. They have blocked 10 shots in both games, and have forced 19 turnovers a game.

These two teams met earlier this season, meeting the Sunday after Thanksgiving in the Lakers' home opener. GVSU jumped out to a 25-11 lead after the first quarter, never letting Northwood make a comeback, winning 81-56. The Laker defense forced 25 turnovers and outrebounded the Timberwolves 45-32. Kamin posted 19 points and six rebounds, adding three steals. Zeinstra buried four three-pointers to finish with 14 points and Ava Scanlon scored 10.

Northwood is one of the hottest teams in the country, winners of 18 straight games, the third-longest streak in the country. They won the GMAC regular season and tournament titles, then defeated Malone and UMSL in the opening two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The Timberwolves are led by Midwest Region Player of the Year Maeve St. John. The senior is averaging 18.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. Center Lea Holmes was a second-team all-region selection, as she posts a nightly 17 points and seven rebounds, hitting 57% of her shots. This will be the first time the Timberwolves will play in the regional championship game, looking for their third ever NCAA Tournament victory.
