BARTOW, Fla. – The Grand Valley State softball team defeated Lake Erie 11-4 before falling to Franklin Pierce 1-0 in the final day of The Spring Games in Florida. The Lakers move to 9-11 on the season.
Game One vs Franklin Pierce – L, 1-0
Franklin Pierce scored the lone run of the game in the top of the fifth inning. GVSU notched four hits while Franklin Pierce had five.
Camryn Hall went 2-3 while
Elizabeth Wesoloski and
Eliana Eiland each had a hit.
Allison Wright started in the circle for GVSU and tossed six innings allowing one run off four hits with seven strikeouts.
Game Two vs Lake Erie – W, 11-4
GVSU got off to a fast start by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.
Kylee Hoebeke drew a walk with the bases loaded and on the next at bat,
Grace Usher scored on a wild pitch. The Lakers would make it 3-0 in the second inning on a
Camryn Hall RBI single to left field to score
Brynn Taliercio. GVSU would increase the lead in the third inning with an RBI single by
Kylie Sinal that scored
Carsyn Segorski.
The Lakers would bring across six runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 10-0 lead. Wesoloski walked with the bases loaded followed by two runs scored off a Lake Erie error. Lake Erie would commit another error that allowed Wesoloski to score. Later in the inning, Taliercio singled to left field to bring home
Jenna Ballard and
Faith Edwards hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the sixth run of the inning. Lake Erie would score four runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning and GVSU would add one more run in the seventh on a Ballard single to center field.
Camryn Hall batted 3-3 with a run scored and RBI.
Brynn Taliercio went 2-3 at the plate with a triple, one run scored, and RBI.
Jenna Ballard drove in two runs off one hit and
Grace Usher scored two runs.
Lainey Cannon got the start in the circle and earned the win after tossing three innings allowing no runs with two strikeouts.
