BARTOW, Fla. The Grand Valley State softball team fell 6-3 to Saint Martin's and 1-0 to Ashland Thursday (Mar. 12) afternoon at The Spring Games in Florida. The Lakers fall to 8-10 on the season.
Game One vs Saint Martin's – L, 6-3
GVSU opened the game scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The Lakers loaded the bases with no outs off a single, Saint Martin's error, and a hit by pitch.
Grace Usher drove in the first run of the game followed by a two-run single to center field to score
Faith Edwards and
Elizabeth Wesoloski. Saint Martin's answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the first inning to tie the game at three. Saint Martin's would score three more runs in the second inning to take a 6-3 lead and would hang on for the three-run win.
Game Two vs Ashland – L, 1-0
Ashland scored the lone run of the game in the top of the first inning. GVSU notched five hits while Ashland recorded four hits.
MaryJane Goodman went 2-3, while
Camryn Hall,
Faith Edwards, and
Kylee Hoebeke each notched a hit.
Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and tossed all seven innings allowing just one run off four hits while tying a career high 10 strikeouts.
