BARTOW, Fla. – The Grand Valley State softball team defeated Wayne State College 2-1 in extra innings and fell to Glenville State 2-0 Tuesday (Mar. 10) at The Spring Games in the sunshine state. The Lakers move to 8-8 on the season.
Game One vs Glenville State – L, 2-0
Glenville State scored both runs in the top of the third inning off a Laker error and RBI single to left field.
Grace Usher notched two hits, while
Camryn Hall,
Kylee Hoebeke, and
Jenna Ballard each recorded a hit.
Nevaeh Ingram got the start in the circle and suffered the loss allowing one earned run with one strikeout.
Game Two vs Wayne State College – W, 2-1 (8-Innings)
The Lakers would score the first run of the game on an RBI single to left field by
Elizabeth Wesoloski in the bottom of the third inning to make it 1-0. Wayne State College would tie the game at one in the sixth inning. In extra innings, GVSU would score the go-ahead run on a Wayne State College error that allowed
Carsyn Segorski to score.
Kylie Swierkos tossed the final 2.1 innings in relief to earn the win (3-2) for the Lakers allowing no runs off one hit.
Allison Wright got the start in the circle and tossed 5.2 innings allowing one run off just two hits with five strikeouts.
The Lakers will have the day off tomorrow, March 11
th and will be back on the diamond at The Spring Games on Thursday, March 12
th. GVSU will face Saint Martin's at 2:30 PM and Ashland at 4:45 PM. Both games will be streamed live on FloCollege.
