ALLENDALE – The No. 14 Grand Valley State men's basketball team is on the road for a pair of GLIAC game this week. The Lakers will face Purdue Northwest on Thursday, February 5
th at 8:00 PM ET and Wayne State on Saturday, February 7
th at 3:00 PM.

GVSU moved up to No. 14 in the latest NABC national poll after defeating two Top 10 teams last week. It is the first time in program history the Lakers defeated Top 10 teams in back-to-back games. GVSU defeated No. 10 Northern Michigan 85-80 and then took down No. 6 Michigan Tech 55-46 to improve to 17-3 overall this season and 10-2 in the GLIAC. The Lakers have won eight straight games which is currently the longest winning streak in the GLIAC.
Shamus Thompson was named the GLIAC defensive player of the week for the second time this season and is the fourth Laker to earn defensive player of the week honors.
The Lakers are averaging just over 78 points per game on 43% shooting from the field. GVSU ranks second in the GLIAC averaging 39.5 rebounds per game and lead the GLIAC swiping 9.7 steals per game.
Ethan Alderink leads the Lakers in scoring averaging 14.3 points on 48% shooting from the field and 42% shooting from three. Alderink is second on the team with 5.3 rebounds and leads the team knocking down 31 three-pointers.
Jalen Charity has is averaging 13.5 points and 5.2 rebounds this season on 48.8% shooting from the field and 82% from the free throw line.
Trevor Smith Jr. is scoring 12.6 points and ranks third in the GLIAC shooting 54% from the field. Smith Jr. leads the country with a 4.0 assist/turnover ratio, while
Mason Docks ranks fifth in the country with a 3.24 assist/turnover ratio.
Purdue Northwest is 9-10 on the season and 5-7 in the GLIAC. The Pride are coming off a 76-71 win at Ferris State and have won two straight games. Purdue Northwest is scoring 74.5 points per game on 45% shooting from the field. Kyle Ross leads the Pride averaging 15.7 points and 7.9 rebounds shooting 57% from the field. Ross also leads the team with 52 assists and is second with nine blocks. Kevin Taylor is scoring 10.3 points per game and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 45% from the field and 75% from the free throw line.
Wayne State is 9-9 on the season and 6-6 in the GLIAC. The Warriors split last week's pair of GLIAC games falling to Purdue Northwest 73-60 before defeating Ferris State 75-73. The Warriors are scoring 77 points on 45% shooting from the field as a team. Jordan Briggs leads the Warriors in scoring putting up over 16 points per game and dishing out 58 assists. Carlos Paul III is averaging over 12 points and four rebounds on an efficient 53% shooting from the field.
