MARION, Ill. – The Grand Valley State softball team split day one at the Oasis Tournament Friday (Feb. 27) afternoon. The Lakers move to 4-3 on the season after falling to McKendree 6-4 in game one before defeating Missouri – St. Louis 6-5 in game two.
vs McKendree – L, 6-4
The Lakers got the scoring started in the top of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Carsyn Segorski opened the scoring with an RBI sacrifice bunt to score
Camryn Hall. Next batter,
Liv Regenfuss scored from third base off a McKendree error. GVSU would make it 3-0 in the fourth inning on an RBI sacrifice flyout to right field by
Eliana Eiland that scored
Kylee Hoebeke. McKendree would score in the bottom half of the fourth inning to make it 3-1, but the Lakers quickly responded with a run in the fifth off the bat of Hoebeke who singled to center field to score
Faith Edwards. The Bearcats would cut the Laker lead to one at 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. McKendree would take the lead in the sixth off a three-run home run. GVSU would add a run in the seventh inning but would come up short and fall by a score of 6-5.
Elizabeth Wesoloski led GVSU offensively going 3-3 at the plate, while
Camryn Hall batted 2-2 with a walk and a run scored.
Kylee Hoebeke hit 2-3 with a double, one run scored, and one RBI.
Faith Edwards notched two hits and scored two runs.
Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and suffered the loss after tossing six innings allowing four earned runs with five strikeouts, while also hitting an RBI single in the seventh inning.
vs Missouri – St. Louis – W, 6-5
Missouri – St. Louis opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs off a sacrifice flyout and a wild pitch. The Tritons would add a run in the second, fourth, and fifth innings inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Lakers would tie the game with a five-run top of the sixth inning to tie the game at five.
MaryJane Goodman put the Lakers on the board with an RBI single to center field to score
Kenedy Coombe.
Liv Regenfuss would bring in two more runs to make it 5-3 with a two-run single up the middle to score
Grace Usher and
Faith Edwards. Next batter,
Karli Dorr singled to center field to score
Allyson Theunick. The Lakers would tie the game at five on an UMSL error. GVSU would take the lead in the seventh inning on a
Faith Edwards RBI single up the middle that brought home
Camryn Hall.
Kylie Swierkos picked up the win for GVSU after tossing 3.1 innings in relief allowing just one run with five strikeouts.
The Lakers will be back for two more games at the Oasis Tournament tomorrrow afternoon. GVSU will face Indianapolis at 1:30 PM ET | 12:30 PM CT and Missouri - St. Louis at 4:00 PM ET | 3:00 PM CT.
