ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's basketball team closed out their weekend homestand with a matchup against Parkside. The third-ranked team in the country took control early and came away with a 74-56 victory. They are now 23-1 overall and 15-1 in GLIAC play.
With GVSU holding a 10-8 lead, the Lakers went on a 15-4 run to end the first quarter, capped off by a
Molly Anderson triple just before the buzzer sounded.
The scoring run continued into the second quarter, with Grand Valley State starting with the first nine points of the period. The Rangers responded with a 12-4 run, cutting their deficit down to 38-24.
Nicole Kamin answered with a three, then Anderson drilled another, followed by a second from Kamin, with the 9-0 run putting the Lakers up 47-24 at the break.
GVSU pushed their lead up to 25 points a few minutes into the second half, their largest advantage of the day. Parkside wouldn't go away, outscoring the Lakers by seven the rest of the quarter, but a three from
Anayya Davis on the last possession made the score 61-43 heading to the fourth.
The Laker lead went back above 20 points following an early fourth quarter and-1 layup from
Ava Scanlon. Both teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter, with each team scoring 13 points in the period, as GVSU closed out the Valentine's Day victory.
Paige VanStee led the offense with 15 points, pulling down seven rebounds as well.
MacKenzie Bisballe had 14 points, six rebounds, and two blocks, with
Avery Lay also adding six boards.
Lexi Plitzuweit had six assists and
Avery Zeinstra dished out five.
