ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team picked up their seventh straight victory Friday night, defeating Wayne State. The win moves the 16
th-ranked team in the country to 13-2 on the season, and 7-0 in league play.
After a tight first set, in which GVSU won 25-22, the Lakers took care of business in the next two, winning each 25-16. With the opening set tied at nine points apiece, the Warriors scored five of the next six points to take a 14-10 lead. The Lakers battled back to eventually tie the match at 21, where they would go on a 4-1 run to end the set and take the first game. GVSU jumped out early in game two, taking an early 10-5 lead. Wayne would never get closer than four points the rest of the way, dropping the second set. With the Warriors holding a slim 8-7 lead in set three, GVSU went on a 12-3 run to take control of the set at 19-11. They never looked back, completing the season sweep of Wayne State.
The Arp sisters led the way offensively, each totaling nine kills.
Kennedy Arp swung at a .500 clip, and added seven blocks, while
Finley Arp had six digs.
Gabby Orlet distributed 17 assists, and
Lexi Armstrong totaled 17 digs.
Olivia Behen served two aces and
Shelby Fabbri had one.
