Last weekend, the Lakers took down Wayne State and Purdue Northwest at home. On Thursday, GVSU outlasted the Warriors, 81-80, winning on a
Paige VanStee layup with 17 seconds left.
Lexi Plitzuweit recorded a career-high 20 points in the win, with VanStee adding 18, and
Nicole Kamin had 17. In Saturday's 89-61 victory over Purdue Northwest, VanStee again had a big game, posting 25 points and 11 boards, totaling her second double-double of the season. Plitzuweit and
Ava Scanlon both had 12 points.
With both wins, Grand Valley State has won 27 straight games, dating back to last season. The 27 wins have set a new program record for consecutive victories, with the Lakers winning the final 13 last season, and the first 14 this year. At 6-0 in league play, the Lakers are the lone unbeaten team in the conference. VanStee is the GLIAC's reigning Offensive Player of the Week, averaging 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds, adding five assists and three steals.
The Panthers have started the season 4-10 overall and 2-4 in the conference, with their two league wins coming over LSSU and PNW. DU has a balanced offensive attack, with four players averaging over nine points, including two in double-figures. Grand Valley State and Davenport have met 18 times in their history, with the Lakers claiming victories in all 18.
