Men's Golf In Fourth At Folds of Honor

GRAND HAVEN, MICH. – The Grand Valley State men's golf team began their season this afternoon, playing in the Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Course. Despite being the only non-Division I school in the field, the Lakers ended day one in fourth place, four strokes back of the lead.
 
Results
 
Alabama and Notre Dame are tied for the lead after the opening 18 holes, carding one over for the day. Kansas is third at three over, with the Lakers right behind them in fourth at five over par. Rounding out the top five are Florida State and Michigan State, both tied at six over.
 
Manuel Cue Vargas is the top Laker on the leaderboard, shooting a 70 (-1) today, making five birdies, to end in a tie for fourth. Ryan Gallagher and Maverick Conaway are both tied for 13th at one over par, carding 72s. Gallagher sank one birdie, while Conaway made three. Bryce Wheeler and Charlie Cooley both shot a 75 (+4) and are tied for 39th after the opening round. Wheeler had two birdies and Cooley drained one.
 
GVSU has an early start to round two, teeing off at 7:30 am tomorrow morning, starting at hole 10. They are once again paired with Ohio State and Baylor.
