GVSU Claims 64-18 Victory Over Detroit Christian College In JV Action Sunday

Grand Valley State claimed a 64-18 victory over Detroit Christian College Sunday (Sept. 28) night at Lubbers Stadium. Redshirt freshman and true freshman only played for the Lakers. GVSU will host Davenport Saturday (Oct. 4) in the annual Family Day contest and the GLIAC opener. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.

The Lakers jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead. QB Ethan Plumb hit WR Alex McLean with a 33-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring. K Jay Cady added the PAT for a 7-0 GVSU lead and RB ArJon Thompson hauled in a 7-yard swing pass from Plumb for a TD. Cady added a pair of field goals, covering 27 and 44 yards, and Thompson scored on a 3-yard run to give GVSU a 25-12 halftime lead. 

Grand Valley State scored 18 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth quarter for the final margin. 

The Lakers tallied 551 yards of total offense, 289 through the air and 264 on the ground. Plumb completed 13-of-21 passes for 171 yards and four touchdowns, while Noah Oury was  6-for-12 for 116 yards and one TD. RB Khylan Osbey toted the ball 14 times for 164 yards and one touchdown (85 yards), while Thompson chipped in 40 yards on 10 carries. Ten different receivers caught a pass, highlighted by WR Abram Larner's four receptions for 32 yards and a TD. Thompson caught three passes for 50 yards and McLean caught two passes for 46 yards and a touchdown. Bwana Miller added two catches for 76 yards and a touchdown that covered 45 yards. 

Benji Allen led the defense with 10 tackles, while Deshawne Phillips, Jordan Jackson and Isaac Poot each contributed five tackles. Jackson registered 1.5 tackles for loss (-15) and a QB sack (-12).
