#3 Lakers Dominate NMU 4-0 Friday

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The No. 3 Grand Valley State women's soccer team dominated Northern Michigan 4-0 on the road Friday (Sept. 26) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 5-1 on the season and 2-0 in the GLIAC.
 
Mackenzie Ford opened the scoring in the 29th minute for her second goal of the season. Ford sent a free kick that went through the goalkeeper's hands and into the back of the net. GVSU would make it 2-0 three minutes later off the foot of Ivy Wilhelm. Sophia Morgan sent a corner kick into the middle of the box that deflected of Vesna Dennison and went right to Wilhelm who kicked it to the bottom left corner of the goal for her second goal of the season.
 
Six minutes later, the Lakers would make it 3-0 in the 38th minute. Morgan sent in another ball to the middle of the box off a corner kick. The ball deflected in the middle of the box and went to a Northern Michigan defender who attempted to clear. The clear went right to Kacy Lauer in the box who headered in up and over the goalkeeper for her first goal of the season.
 
In the second half, GVSU was awarded a penalty kick in the 72nd minute. Sarah From stepped up and scored her fourth goal of the season to make it 4-0. The Lakers would hold Northern Michigan to three shots in the second half and zero corner kicks to hang on for the 4-0 shutout win.
 
GVSU dominated Northern Michigan 27-6 in shots and 15-2 in shots on goal. The Lakers produced 12 corner kicks and hald the Wildcats to two corner kicks. Mackenzie Ford scored her first career game-winning goal in 76 minutes played. Kacy Lauer notched a goal and led GVSU with four shots on goal in 81 minutes played. Sarah Fromm netted a goal on four shots with two on target. Ivy Wilhelm added a goal on two shots, while Sophia Morgan and Vesna Dennison each dished out an assist. Macie Hunter got the start in goal and posted her second consecutive individual shutout and improved her record to 3-0 making two saves. 
 
The Lakers will conclude their weekend in the Upper Peninsula on Sunday (Sept. 28) when they travel to Houghton, Michigan to face Michigan Tech. Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM. The game will be streamed live on FloSports.
