#3 Grand Valley State dropped a 17-14 decision at #16 Pittsburg State Saturday night before a crowd of 8,350 at Carnie Smith Stadium. GVSU will have a two-week bye and will next host Davenport on October 4 for the GLIAC opener at Lubbers Stadium.
Pittsburg State built a 10-0 halftime lead with a pair of second quarter scoring drives. The Gorillas used an 11-play, 55-yard scoring drive to kick a 53-yard field goal for the first points of the game. Following an interception, Pitt State drove 54 yards in eight plays for a touchdown. A GVSU offsides penalty on fourth down kept the drive alive and was finished with a 17-yard completion for a touchdown from QB Jackson Berry to wide receiver Kuron Parchmon.
