ALLENDALE, Mich. – For the second time this season,
Erika Beistle has been named the NCAA Division II Women's National Athlete of the Week by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The honor was given to Beistle earlier today via the USTFCCCA
website.
Beistle, "one of the best discus throwers that NCAA DII has ever seen," according to the USTFCCCA, competed at two meets this weekend to add to her legacy.
On Friday, the senior traveled to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the Len Paddock Open before competing at the GVSU Last Chance Meet on Sunday. At the final home meet of the regular season, Beistle recorded the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 all-time marks with throws of 65.02m (213-4), 63.74m (209-1) and 62.90m (206-4), respectively.
Since the beginning of the season, Beistle has notched the top-six marks in NCAA DII history, including her record-setting 66.63m (218-7) throw. The reigning discus national champion will look to defend her title next week at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
