ST. LOUIS, MO. – The GVSU women's lacrosse season came to an end in the Midwest Regional semifinals, falling to Maryville 17-14. The Lakers conclude the 2025 campaign at 16-4.
After the Saints got the first two goals of the game, the Lakers tied it up with goals from
Gracie Bancroft and
Ashleigh Rothe. Maryville went back up by one, but Bancroft tallied a late first quarter goal to knot the game at three.
The two teams traded goals the entire second quarter, with the Lakers scoring first less than two minutes into the quarter. The Lakers got another goal from Rothe, and two from
Grace Maddox in the period, which ended with both teams tied at eight.
It was much of the same for the third quarter, as the teams exchanged goals over the first 13 minutes, with the Lakers getting scores from Rothe and
Ella Boose. The Saints scored with just over a minute left on the clock to lead 11-10 heading to the fourth.
Maryville added another to lead by two, but it was quickly answered with a goal from Boose. The Saints then went on a 4-0 run to push their lead up to 16-11. The Lakers tried to fight back, getting goals from Bancroft,
Jillian Bingman, and Ziegler, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Gracie Bancroft scored four goals to lead the offense.
Ashleigh Rothe had a hat trick, with
Ella Boose,
Zoe Ziegler, and
Grace Maddox all scoring twice.
Jillian Bingman added one goal and one assist. Boose and Ziegler each had two assists and
Ainsley Shilling had one.
Elora Ferrie picked up six groundballs and caused three turnovers and Shilling caused two turnovers.
Kaylyn Cater notched six saves and three groundballs. Ziegler, Boose,
Sarah Krause, and
Quinn McElroy all had two groundballs.
