ALLENDALE, Mich. –
Erika Beistle has been named the NCAA Division II Women's National Athlete of the Week
as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this afternoon. The honor follows Beistle's record-shattering discus throw at this weekend's GVSU Early Meet.
On her third attempt, the senior recorded a mark of 66.63m (218-7) in discus. The record shattered her previous best (62.50m), which had been Grand Valley's record since her performance at the 2024 United States Olympic Trials.
Beistle's throw not only broke the school record but shattered the NCAA DII record of 61.35m (201-4), which was set in 2019. Her mark ranks her fourth in NCAA history across all divisions. The Michigan native made waves around the globe, too; she currently has the
second-best mark in the world, just behind Valarie Allman's 66.72m throw.
