ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team fell to Saginaw Valley State in a doubleheader 4-2 and 6-2 Sunday (April 6) afternoon. The Lakers fall to 16-20 on the season and 7-7 in the GLIAC.
Game One – L, 4-2
Carsyn Segorski scored the game's first run in the third inning with a solo home run to left field for second of the season. Saginaw Valley State scored all four runs in the fifth inning. The Cardinals hit a 2-run double followed by a 2-run home run to center field. The Lakers added one run in the seventh inning off an RBI single by
Allyson Theunick to score
Jasmine Mauk.
Eliana Eiland and
Morgan Spicer each batted 2-3, while
Karli Dorr added a hit. Segorski and Theunick each drove in a run.
Nevaeh Ingram got the start in the circle and tossed all six innings allowing four runs off five hits with three strikeouts.
Game Two – L, 6-2
Saginaw Valley State opened the scoring in the third inning scoring two runs and added three runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-0 lead. The Lakers got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning off an RBI infield single by
Madelynn Pope that scored
Morgan Spicer. SVSU would add one run in the fifth inning and GVSU would add one run in the seventh inning.
Madelynn Pope drove in two runs, while
Karli Dorr batted 2-3 with a run scored.
Elizabeth Wesoloski hit 2-3, while
Morgan Spicer added a hit and run scored. Dorr got the start in the circle and tossed five innings allowing six runs with five strikeouts.
Kylie Swierkos tossed one scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts.
GVSU will travel to Purdue Northwest on Wednesday, April 9
th for a GLIAC doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2:00 PM in Hammond, Indiana. Both games will be streamed live on FloSports.
