ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State's discus, javelin and pole vault athletes closed out the final day of the outdoor home opener this afternoon. Despite the few Lakers competing, several personal-and-season-bests were recorded, including
Erika Beistle's program and division II record-breaking discus throw.

Discus
Erika Beistle,
Maggie Stevenson and
Sophia Snellenberger competed in the invitational flight of discus for the women. Beistle had a lifetime best with a massive throw on her third attempt. Her 66.63m (218-7) mark goes down as the current second-best in the world, best historical mark in NCAA Division II, fourth-best in women's collegiate history and by-far the best at Grand Valley State.
Stevenson threw for a season-best 50.16m (164-6), ranking second and Snellenberger ranked seventh with a personal-best mark of 42.02m (137-10).
In the men's invitational, James MacKey Jr. lead with a personal-best 56.05 (183-10) that ranks him third in GVSU history.
Nathan Spitzley recorded a season-best in the event with a 53.85m (176-8) throw that ranked him third overall.
Javelin
Will Gaston was Grand Valley's only competitor in javelin. The junior recorded a season-best throw of 54.20m (177-10) to rank first in the event.
Pole Vault
Five Laker ladies competed in pole vault this afternoon.
Brooke Bowers led the event with a mark of 4.08m (13-4.5). Next was
Ava Collier who recorded a height of 3.38m (11-1) which was followed by
Giuliana Serapiglia's 3.23m (10-7) mark.
Cassidy Bowden recorded a personal-best 3.08m (10-1.25);
Sydney Wilson recorded the same mark.
Seven Lakers competed in the men's event.
Dolan Gonzales led the squad, clearing a season-best 5.11m (16-9.25). Three of the guys cleared 4.81m (15-9.25):
Camryn Battjes recorded the season-best on his first attempt,
Colton Emeott cleared the height on his second and
Wyatt Alwine grabbed the mark on his third.
Ray Weatherington and
David Conrad had matching marks, as well, recording a height of 4.36m (14-3.5) – a personal-best for Weatherington.
Ryan Eck was the final Laker on the board, recorded a season-best 4.21m (13-9.75).
