ALLENDALE, Mich. – Grand Valley State closed out their 2025 regular outdoor track and field season this evening at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet. The squad also competed at the Clark Wood Invitational (Louisville, Ky.) and the Drake Relays (Des Moines, Iowa) Friday and Saturday.

GVSU Extra Weekend Meet - Results
Just three Lakers, two high jumpers and one long jumper, saw competition at the Drake Relays.
Jaivon Harrison was the first to compete in men's high jump. The senior recorded a season-best 2.21m (7-3) mark. His height tied the mark of the first-place mark, but he ranked second in the count back.
Alaina Diaz recorded a mark at Drake, as well, jumping or 5.88m (19-3.5) in long jump.
Pole vaulters saw action away from Allendale, as well, as they competed at the Clark Wood Invitational at the University of Louisville. The men competed first across three flights on Friday.
Ray Weatherington was the only men's athlete to record a personal-best mark of 4.76m (15-7.25), ranking first in flight C of the event.
On Saturday,
Ava Collier also grabbed a season-best. On her first attempt at the height, the freshman cleared 3.51m (11-6.25). Collier tied the marks of three of the athletes ahead of her, ranking fifth on the count back.
Several athletes competed on home turf this weekend, updating several spots in GVSU's top 10 record book. Although they may not all be mentioned, more than 30 personal or season-bests were recorded at the one day GVSU Extra Weekend Meet.
Brooke Barkocy and
Destini Dorkins started the day in a big way, recording a season-and-personal-best in the 100m hurdles. Barkocy finished first in the event at a season-best 13.72, just 0.01 seconds away from her 2023 personal-best mark. Dorkins recorded a personal-best in the event, shaving 0.16 seconds off of her previous best with a 14.11 finish.
Dorkins continued to dominate in the 400m hurdles, recording a personal-best 1:01.13 finish to tie for 10
th-fastest in program history and 22
nd in NCAA Division II at the time of her finish.
Drennan Akins recorded a big PR in his event, the 3000m steeplechase. His 9:08.46 finish ranked him second in the event and 27
th in NCAA Division II.
Scott Spaanstra updated his name in the record books in the men's 800m. His 1:48.81 finish broke his 2023 personal-best, elevating the senior to number two in program history. He is currently ranked 10
th in NCAA DII.
Women's long jumpers also updated the books.
Kaitlyn Molnar recorded a mark of 5.73m (18-9.75) to update her spot in the record book, ranking number nine all-time.
Nyla Reed achieved a personal-best mark of 5.50m (18-0.5) to tie for number 10 all-time.
Sophomore
Gerald Capaccio recorded a personal-best 17.43m (57-2.25) in shot put to rank ninth in program history. His mark also puts him at number 21 in NCAA Division II at the time of his throw. Laker alumni
Myles Kerner, competing unattached, set a new stadium record in shot put. He recorded a 20.23m (66-4.5) throw, shattering the 19.99m mark set in 2021.
Erika Beistle notched a season-best 16.00m (52-6) in women's shot put, placing her at number two in NCAA DII. Beistle also recorded an impressive 65.25m (214-1) near-best in discus, ranking first in the event.
In addition to Capaccio and Beistle, several other throwers notched bests in their events.
Michael Griffey threw for 63.32m (207-9) in hammer to record a GVSU best in hammer; he now holds the number five spot in program history.
Lucas Lesher recorded a personal-best as well, recording a hammer throw mark of 58.25m (191-1).
