Lakers Split Doubleheader vs SVSU Friday

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team split a GLIAC doubleheader against No. 24 Saginaw Valley State Friday (April 26) afternoon. The Lakers won game one 10-0 in five innings and lost game two 3-0 moving to 24-24 on the season and 15-11 in the GLIAC.
 
Game One – W, 10-0 (5-Innings)
 
GVSU opened the scoring in the second inning scoring four runs. Faith Edwards walked with the bases loaded to bring home the game's first run. Next at bat, Nevaeh Ingram scored off a passed ball. During the same at bat, Eliana Eiland and Edwards both scored off a Saginaw Valley State error. 
 
The Lakers would add two runs to make it 6-0 in the fourth inning. Morgan Spicer launched a triple to left center to score Faith Edwards all the from first. Next batter, Elizabeth Wesoloski singled to right field to score Spicer. GVSU would add four runs in the fifth inning to claim the 10-0 mercy rule win. Wesoloski smoked a two-out grand slam to left field for her team leading eighth home run of the season. 
 
Elizabeth Wesoloski batted 2-4 with a home run, five runs batted in, and a run scored. Morgan Spicer went 2-3 at the plate with a triple, two runs scored, one RBI, and a walk. Karli Dorr hit 2-2 with a run scored, while Faith Edwards added a hit, three runs scored, one RBI, and two walks. Nevaeh ingram got the start in the circle and earned the win tossing all five innings allowing no runs off one hit with three strikeouts. It is the second straight game Ingram has tossed a one-hit shutout.
 
Game Two – L, 3-0
 
SVSU opened the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead off an RBI double to right field in the first inning. The Cardinals would score one run in the second on an RBI single through the right side and one run in the fourth off a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 3-0. 
 
Wesoloski notched a double and a walk, while Jasmine Mauk hit a double. Grace Usher, Karli Dorr, and Nevaeh Ingram each added a hit. Kylie Swierkos got the start in the circle and tossed all seven innings allowing one earned run off six hits with two strikeouts.
 
GVSU will conclude the regular season with a GLIAC doubleheader at home against Wayne State. The Lakers will honor their two seniors prior to first pitch beginning at 2:30 PM. The doubleheader will be streamed live on FloSports.
