ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team split a home GLIAC doubleheader to Parkside Saturday (April 19) afternoon. The Lakers move to 23-23 on the season and 14-10 in the GLIAC after falling in game one 7-1 and winning game two 2-0.
Game One – L, 7-1
GVSU scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning.
Jasmine Mauk led the inning off with a triple to right center. Next batter,
Faith Edwards hit a single to center field to score Mauk to give the Lakers an early lead.
Parkside would score two runs in the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Rangers hit a two-run single up the middle with the bases loaded to take the lead. Parkside would add five insurance runs in the seventh inning highlighted by a two-run double to left field and two-run single to right center.
Karli Dorr batted 2-2 with a double and a walk.
Jasmine Mauk went 1-3 with a triple, while
Faith Edwards drove in a run. Dorr got the start in the circle and tossed all seven innings allowing six earned runs with five strikeouts.
Game Two – W, 2-0
GVSU opened the scoring in the third inning.
Eliana Eiland and
Carsyn Segorski led the inning off with back-to-back singles. After a sacrifice bunt to advance runners to second and third,
Faith Edwards hit a popup to second base and Eiland would be able to score from third to put the Lakers in front.
GVSU would add to the lead scoring a run to make it 2-0 in the fifth inning.
Eliana Eiland reached base on a leadoff double to right center. Later in the inning with two outs, Edwards hit a single up the middle to score Eiland from second.
Eliana Eiland batted 2-3 with a double and two runs scored.
Faith Edwards hit a double and drove in both runs.
Grace Usher hit 2-3 at the plate, while
Karli Dorr and
Carsyn Segorski each added a hit.
Nevaeh Ingram got the start in the circle and earned the win after tossing a one-hit shutout with four strikeouts.
The Lakers will be back home next weekend for the final four games of the regular season. GVSU will host Saginaw Valley State on Friday, April 25
th at 3:00 PM and Wayne State on Saturday, April 26
th at 2:30 PM. Both doubleheaders will be streamed live on FloSports.
