Lakers Hit Walk Off in Game Two to Earn Doubleheader Spilt

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State softball team split a GLIAC doubleheader at home to Roosevelt Thursday (April 17) afternoon. The Lakers move to 22-22 on the season and 13-9 in the GLIAC after falling in game one 5-0 before winning 4-3 in game two on a walk off. 
 
Game One – L, 5-0
 
Roosevelt opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning off an RBI double to right field and RBI groundout. Roosevelt would add three runs in the fifth inning on a two-run double off the right field fence and a Grand Valley State error later in the inning.
 
Faith Edwards, Karli Dorr, and Jasmine Mauk each notched a hit in the loss. Dorr got the start in the circle and tossed all seven innings allowing four earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts. 
 
Game Two – W, 4-3
 
Roosevelt took an early lead scoring one run in the top of the first inning. Roosevelt led the game off with an infield single and scored later in the inning off a GVSU error. GVSU would tie the game at one in the fourth inning. Eliana Eiland singled up the middle to score Morgan Spicer from second base. 
 
Roosevelt quickly answered scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Roosevelt hit a single followed by a double and RBI ground out to retake the lead. Roosevelt would add a run to make it 3-1 on an RBI single up the middle. GVSU responded with one run in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Elizabeth Wesoloski hit an RBI single up the middle to score Faith Edwards from third base. GVSU would tie the game at three in the sixth inning off a Roosevelt error. 
 
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Faith Edwards led the inning off with a single up the middle. GVSU loaded the bases after with one out after walks by both Nevaeh Ingram and Grace Usher. Next batter, Karli Dorr hit an infield single to score Edwards from third to walk it off. 
 
Faith Edwards went 2-4 with two runs scored including scoring the game winning run. Karli Dorr hit the game winning RBI and added a hit. Nevaeh Ingram notched a hit and walked twice, while Eliana Eiland and Elizabeth Wesoloski each added an RBI. Ingram got the start in the circle and earned the win after tossing all seven innings allowing three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts. 
 
GVSU will close the week at home on Saturday, April 19th when they host Parkside in a GLIAC doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 1:00 PM at the GVSU Softball Field.
