CLERMONT, Fla. – The Grand Valley State softball team resumed their schedule in Florida with a 2-1 against Edinboro and a 10-6 win over West Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday (March 5) morning. The Lakers improve to 8-8 on the season.
Game One vs Edinboro – W, 2-1
GVSU got out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Faith Edwards walked and stole second base during the next at bat. Later in the inning,
Elizabeth Wesoloski drove in her team leading 11
th RBI of the season with a single through the left side.
Edinboro would tie the game at one in the third inning on a sacrifice fly to left field. The Lakers would quickly respond and retake the lead with one run in the bottom half of the third inning to make it 2-1.
Grace Usher would drove him
Morgan Spicer from third in what would. Be the game-winning RBI. Edinboro would put runners on second and third in the fifth inning, but
Nevaeh Ingram would keep them off the scoreboard and prevent them from tying the game.
Ingram got the start in the circle and earned the win (4-2) after tossing all seven innings allowing just one run off three hits with three strikeouts.
Elizabeth Wesoloski batted 2-3 with an RBI.
Grace Usher added a hit and RBI in the win.
Liv Regenfuss and Madelyn Pope each walked twice.
Game Two vs West Virginia Wesleyan – W, 10-6
GVSU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Eliana Eiland started the game with a leadoff double to left field. Next batter,
Faith Edwards doubled to center field to score Eiland from second. Three batters later,
Grace Usher hit a two-out RBI double to right field to put the Lakers up 2-0.
The Lakers would score four runs in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Karli Dorr leadoff the inning with a single and moved to second on a passed ball.
Carsyn Segorski walked during the next at bat and
Madelynn Pope loaded the bases with no outs off an infield single. Next batter, Eiland hit an infield single to score Dorr from third and Segorski from second. After Edwards walked to load the bases again,
Morgan Spicer hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Pope from third. Next batter,
Elizabeth Wesoloski hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Eiland from third.
West Virginia Wesleyan answered with a six-run third inning to tie the game at six. The Bobcats got on the board with a three-run home run to cut the Laker lead in half. West Virginia Wesleyan would add two runs off back-to-back walks with the bases loaded to pull within one. The Bobcats tied the game off an infield RBI single.
GVSU answered with two runs in the fourth inning to retake the led at 8-6. Edwards hit a leadoff single to right field and scored off a
Karli Dorr double to center field. Next batter,
MaryJane Goodman doubled to right field to score the pinch runner
Kenedy Coombe. The Lakers would add two runs in the fifth inning to go ahead 10-6. Pope leadoff the inning with a single to right field. Two batters later, Edwards singled to put runners at first and second. Later in the inning, Wesoloski hit a two-out double to score both Pope and Edwards.
GVSU notched a season high 15 hits with six doubles in the win.
Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and earned the win after tossing 6.2 innings allowing no runs with seven strikeouts.
Faith Edwards batted 3-4 with a double, three runs scored, and one RBI.

Eliana Eiland notched two hits with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI's.
Elizabeth Wesoloski led GVSU with three runs batted in.
GVSU will continue their trip in Florida with two games tomorrow (March 5) afternoon. The Lakers will face in-region foe Tiffin at 2:00 PM and St. Cloud State at 4:15 PM. Both games will be played at Legends Way in Clermont, Florida.
