CLERMONT, Fla. – The Grand Valley State softball team fell to Tiffin 8-3 and St. Cloud State 10-2 Thursday (March 6) afternoon. The Lakers fall to 8-10 on the season.
Game One vs Tiffin – L, 8-3
GVSU scored three runs in the bottom half of the first inning.
Elizabeth Wesoloski doubled to score both
Eliana Eiland and
Faith Edwards to put GVSU up 2-0. Later in the inning,
Grace Usher hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Wesoloski from third.
Tiffin would score two runs in the second inning to make a 3-2 Laker lead off a two-run home run. The Dragons would take a 4-3 lead with a two-run third inning. Tiffin would add to their lead with a three-run fourth inning off a solo home run and two-RBI double and would score one run in the fifth off a solo home run.
Wesoloski drove in her team leading 15
th and 16
th RBI's this season.
Eliana Eiland hit a triple, scored one run, and walked.
Grace Usher added a hit and RBI.
Nevaeh Ingram got the start in the circle and suffered the loss (4-3) after tossing 3.1 innings.
Kylie Swierkos tossed 3.2 innings of relief.
Game Two vs St. Cloud State – L, 10-2
St. Clous State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run to left field. GVSU would get on the board and take a 2-1 lead in the third inning.
Morgan Spicer tripled to center field to score
Carsyn Segorski. Next batter,
Eliana Eiland hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Spicer from third to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead. St. Cloud State would tie the game at two in the third inning and would score eight runs in the fifth inning to claim the mercy rule win.
Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and suffered the loss (3-3) after tossing 4.2 innings. Spicer hit an RBI triple and scored a run, while Wesoloski, Usher, and Dorr each notched a hit.
The Lakers will conclude their trip to Florida at The Spring Games tomorrow (March 7) morning when they face in-region foe Ohio Dominican at 10:30 AM.
