ALLENDALE, Mich. – Graduate student
Eli Kosiba and Men's Assistant Coach (jumps)
Steve Jones have received 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Awards as
announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association yesterday afternoon. High jumper
Eli Kosiba was named National Men's Field Athlete of the Year and Jones was honored as National Men's Assistant Coach of the Year.
The national honors follow
conference and
regional awards for the coach-athlete duo, both of which were unanimous decisions.
Kosiba was named the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Indoor Track & Field National Field Athlete of the Year following his best (and final) season of his collegiate career. The graduate student, who hails from Rensselaer, Indiana, tied the NCAA DII high jump record of 2.30m (7-6.5) at the Grand Valley State Holiday Open back in December. Fast forward to March and Kosiba won the event title at the 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Championships, which came just a few weeks after he finished runner-up at the USATF Indoor Championships. Following his individual title at the DII Championships, Kosiba competed at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing China. He placed fourth with a 2.28m (7-5.75) jump – his best of 2025.
Jones was named the 2025 NCAA Division II Men's Indoor Track & Field National Assistant Coach of the Year following the immense success of his student-athletes throughout the season. In his 17th year as assistant coach at Grand Valley State, Jones coached the Lakers' high jumpers to a 1-2-3-6 finish at the 2025 NCAA DII Indoor Championships. Five of his athletes competed, plus one in the long jump. His high jumpers were led by Kosiba and
Jaivon Harrison. Both tying the number nine all-time DII mark at 2.23m (7-3.75).
