TIFFIN, Ohio – The Grand Valley State softball team fell on the road to Tiffin in a doubleheader Monday (March 17) afternoon. The Lakers fell 5-0 in both games and drop to 9-13 on the season.
In game one, Tiffin jumped out to an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning. The Dragons added an RBI single and a two-run home run in the fifth inning to make it 5-0.
Madelynn Pope went 3-3 at the plate with a triple and double.
Grace Usher hit a double, while
Karli Dorr added a hit. Dorr got the start in the circle and suffered the loss (3-5) after tossing six innings allowing two earned runs with eight strikeouts.
In game two, Tiffin scored two runs in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Dragons would add three insurance runs in the sixth inning off an RBI triple and two-run home run to make it a 5-0 lead.
Morgan Spicer hit her fourth triple of the season, while
Elizabeth Wesoloski went 1-2 with a walk. Nevaeh ingram and
Allyson Theunick each added a hit. Ingram got the start in the circle and suffered the loss (4-4) after tossing six innings allowing five hits with six strikeouts.
GVSU will begin conference play this weekend on the road when they travel to face Roosevelt and Parkside. The Lakers will open GLIAC play against Roosevelt in a double header on Friday, March 21
st with game one beginning at 3:00 PM ET. GVSU will then travel to face Parkside on Saturday, March 22
nd in a doubleheader with game one starting at 1:00 PM ET. Both games will be streamed live on FloSports.
