The men's team scored 61.5 points to earn the title of National Runner-Up. They ranked behind Pittsburg State who scored a total of 76 points. Of the 61.5 points, 26.5 of them were added by the high jump squad who grabbed first, second, third and sixth. National Shot Put Champion Myles Kerner added 10 more points to the team score with his first place finish this afternoon.

The Laker ladies recorded 47 points through 17 events, falling behind Pittsburg State (63) and Minnesota State (58). Twenty of the women's points were recorded by national champions Lauren Kiley (3000m) and Kaylee Diamond (high jump). Other notable point-getters include Natalie Graber's national runner-up finish in the women's 3000m (8 pts.) and the women's distance medley relay squad (6 pts.).

"We had an incredible three days of competing," said head coach Jerry Baltes. "Our goal is always to compete for team champions and we were in the mix throughout the entire competition."

Erika Beistle, Mackenzie Bohrer, Kennedy Jackson and Maggie Stevenson kicked Friday's events off with women's shot put. Unfortunately, Beistle and Stevenson both threw three fouls, making them ineligible for the finals round. Bohrer ranked 14th with a 13.81m (45-4.5) best and Jackson threw for 13.44m (44-1.25) to rank 16th.

Laker nation had a short break before cheering on GVSU's four men in pole vault. Dolan Gonzales was the star of the squad. In his first appearance at an NCAA Championship, he cleared a personal-best 5.24m (17-2.25) mark, which he achieved on his first attempt at the height. The mark earned the sophomore the fifth spot on the podium and All-America honors. Camryn Battjes and Colton Emeott tied for 17th, clearing matching marks of 4.84m (15-10.5). Wyatt Alwine recorded the same mark but placed 15th on the countback.

Maria Mitchell and Caleb Futter were the next two to compete, racing in the women's or men's mile finals. Mitchell went first, closing out the mile at a personal-best 4:44.50 time to place eighth and earn All-America honors. Futter also placed eighth with an All-American finish at 4:07.37.

Following the mile finals, Myles Kerner took the platform for men's shot put. He recorded a 19.22m (63-0.75) throw on his first attempt that automatically qualified him for three extra throws. His first throw was his best of the day and of the event and earned him back-to-back national champion titles. Kerner's last event as a collegiate athlete earned him All-America honors and added 10 points to the team total.

Kaylee Diamond was the sole competitor for the Lakers in women's high jump. After successfully clearing four marks, the junior recorded a 1.81m (5-11.25) jump on her first attempt. The height was not only a personal-best for Diamond, but also a new best for Grand Valley. Her mark crowned her national champion in women's high jump and added 10 points to the women's score.

Sam Allen and Scott Spaanstra represented GVSU in the men's 800m finals. Spaanstra started in eighth place and moved his way into sixth at the 600m mark. He maintained that position through the final 200m, finishing at 1:50.33. Allen finished behind Spaanstra, crossing the finish line seventh at 1:51.26. The pair was given All-American honors and added five points to the men's score.

The final individual events of the day were the women's and men's 3000m. Three Lakers, Lauren Kiley, Natalie Graber and Mitchell, competed in the women's event. Kiley had a phenomenal finish, running the final 200m in 30.64, climbing four spaces and clinching the individual national title in 9:26.14. Graber finished just behind Kiley, crossing the finish line at 9:26.91 to be named national runner-up in the event. Mitchell finished 16th at 9:57.47. The squad recorded 18 points to add to the team total.

The women's 4x400m relay crew closed out the day, recording the final points for Grand Valley State. Catherine Guckenberger led off, running the first leg in 56.92. Claire Neumann was the next Laker up and ran the next 400m in 55.43. In her second relay of the week, Addison Washler closed out the third leg at a time of 54.81 before passing the baton to Alaina Diaz, who anchored the relay in 54.43. The women's 3:41.57 finish landed them the eighth spot on the podium and All-America honors to go with the awards.

"I am incredibly proud of our student-athletes in how they competed, but more importantly who they are as people and how each represents our program in such a positive manner," said Baltes.
