#2 GVSU Closes Regular Season With Win Over Roosevelt

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's basketball team finished off the regular season in style, dominating Roosevelt for a 116-62 win. The Lakers finish the regular season at 29-2 and 19-1 in GLIAC play, entering next week's GLIAC Tournament as the top seed.
 
With the score tied at six early in the first quarter, GVSU got three straight three-pointers from Abrie Cabana, Rylie Bisballe, then Cabana again to take a 15-6 lead. After two Roosevelt free throws, the Lakers went on a 19-0 run, getting threes from Ellie Droste and Cabana, plus an and-1 layup and free throw from Cabana, to push their lead to 34-8. The two teams traded baskets for the rest of the quarter, with GVSU leading 38-12.
 
Droste started the second period with another make from beyond the arc, kickstarting a 13-4 run that put GVSU up 51-16. The Lakers were dominant in the paint in the second quarter, scoring 22 in the paint. Droste ended the quarter with another three, making it 71-32 at the half.
 
The two teams traded baskets for the first six minutes of the third quarter, as GVSU led 82-46. From then on, Grand Valley State went on a 9-4 run to close out the quarter, leading 91-50.
 
An early layup from MacKenzie Bisballe put the Lakers over the century mark at 101-58. She then hit another layup, followed by threes from Vanstee, Molly Anderson, then another from Vanstee, putting GVSU up by 54 at 112-58. Kathryn Schmidt closed out the scoring for the Lakers, with the final four points, to finish off an undefeated home regular season.
 
MacKenzie Bisballe tallied a career-high 25 points, shooting 11-18 from the floor, while grabbing five boards, getting four steals, and blocking three shots. Rylie Bisballe had a season-high 24 points, going 11-16 from the field, adding six rebounds and four assists. Abrie Cabana scored 19 points and dished out five assists, with Paige Vanstee totaling 12 points and seven rebounds. Ellie Droste scored 11 points and Molly Anderson recorded 10 points. GVSU shot 55.4% from the floor and 50% from three and posted 29 assists. They forced 28 turnovers and outrebounded Roosevelt 49-33.

The Lakers stay at home for the GLIAC Tournament, hosting Michigan Tech on Wednesday for the quarterfinal round. The game is scheduled to tip at 6:00.
