ALLENDALE, Mich. – Alongside alumni and little Lakers, Grand Valley State's track and field squads closed out the annual Mike Lints Alumni Meet. The teams grabbed 20 individual event wins and met 21 NCAA Championship-qualifying marks.

Throws
Shot Put – Myles Kerner won the crown in the shot put invite, throwing for 19.33m (63-5).
Gerald Capaccio and
Andrew Berryhill also competed in the invite portion. The freshmen placed eighth and ninth with distances of 16.09m (52-9.5) and 13.08m (42.11). In the open, high jumper
Andrew Kraft made his shot put debut, throwing for a distance of 12.13m (39-9.75).
In the women's shot put invite, GVSU took three of the top five spots.
Erika Beistle led the squad and event with a 17.08m (56-0.5) throw.
Mackenzie Bohrer was next, ranking second with a NCAA Championship-qualifying 14.68m (48-2) throw.
Maggie Stevenson rounded out the top five with a 14.33m (47-0.25) throw, also qualifying for the National Championships.
Kennedy Jackson was the only Laker to compete in the open, throwing for a third-place 12.76m (41-10.5).
Weight Throw – The women's weight throw invite saw two Lakers compete.
Shelby Ulven and
Alaina Omonode ranked second and third with 18.91m (62-0.5) and 18.57m (60-11.25) throws, respectively. Four women competed in the open, ranking sixth, seventh, eighth and 11
th.
Kennedy Jackson (15.76m / 51-8.5),
Natalia Pluff (15.70m / 51-6.25) and
Sophia Snellenberger (15.29m / 50-2) grabbed the six through eight spots. Alexandria DiCanio placed 11
th with a 14.83m (48-8) throw.
Three Lakers competed in the invite portion of the weight throw. James MacKey Jr. won the event title, throwing for 20.19m (66-3).
Michael Griffey ranked fourth with an NCAA Championship-qualifying distance of 19.16m (62-10.5).
Myles Kerner rounded out the team with an 18.72m (61-5) throw, placing sixth.
Lucas Lesher was the lone Laker to compete in the open. He threw for a second-place 17.71m (58-1.25) to close out the day.
Pole Vault
The men started the day off for the pole vault squad.
Colton Emeott etched his name as number eight all-time in GVSU's record book with a personal-best, NCAA-qualifying, event-winning 5.01m (16-5.25) height.
Camryn Battjes took second in the event with a personal-best 4.86m (15-11.25) height.
David Conrad (4.41m / 14-5.5) tied for sixth,
Ryan Eck (4.41m / 14-5.5) tied for eighth and
Ray Weatherington (4.26m / 13-11.75) placed 10
th.
The women shined in the event, especially freshman
Brooke Bowers. Bowers not only won the event, but she broke her own personal-best, yet again. Her 4.15m (13-7.25) height goes down in GVSU's All-Time Indoor Record Book as the fourth-best in program history.
Giuliana Serapiglia also recorded a personal-best, clearing 3.10m (10-2) to rank ninth at the meet.
Ava Collier and
Sydney Wilson competed, as well. Collier tied for fourth with a height of 3.40m (11-1.75) and Wilson cleared 2.95m (9-8) to place 11
th.
Jumps
Per usual, GVSU's jumps squad had a great outing at today's meet.
High Jump – Jonathan Rankins-James and
Mason Floria started the jumps day off with the men's high jump. Rankins-James won the event, clearing 2.20m (7-2.5) after passing the 2.15m (7-0.5) mark. Floria maxed out at 1.75m (5-8.75), which he achieved on his second attempt at the height.
Five Lakers competed in women's high jump, which immediately followed the men's event. Freshman
Heidi Newhouse cleared a personal-best 1.64m (5-4.5) to win the event.
Alexis Weber tied her personal-best 1.58m (5-2.25) to take third in the event.
Abigail DenOuden,
Ashley Atkins and
Lauren Rokos all cleared 1.53m (5-0.25) to take the four, five and six spots.
Long/Triple Jump – The men's long jumpers had an impressive outing at the Mike Lints Alumni Meet.
Luke Jelderks broke his personal-best yet again, recording a 7.41m (24-3.75) distance on his second attempt to update his number two spot in GVSU's All-Time Indoor Record Book.
Caleb Taylor also showed out, capturing a second-place, 7.23m (23-8.75) jump to not only qualify for the NCAA Championships, but to tie for the number seven all-time record. Dylan Lafontsee (7.14m / 23-5.25),
Prentice Gardner Jr. (6.90m / 22-7.75) and
Alec Crum (6.85m / 22-5.75) also ranked in the top-10, ranking third, fifth and sixth.
Freshman
Nolyn Johnson III also grabbed an event win, recording a 13.45m (44-1.5) distance in the triple jump.
Relays
Grand Valley saw three squads compete in the men's 1600m (4x400) relay.
Zach Pray,
Vincent Giuliano,
Michael McNeil and
Myles Rhodes made up Squad A. The team finished at 3:11.73 to not only move up as the fourth-fastest squad in program history, but to also qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Two squads competed in heat two of the relays.
Adair Artis,
Tinsae Nelson,
Logan Tracia and
Colin Vanderschaaf represented Squad C. Squad B consisted of
Drennan Akins,
Lleyton Axline,
Tyler Heath and
Ethan Parker. Squad C finished second in the heat at 3:26.53; squad B finished fourth at 3:30.64.
Mid-Distance/Distance
Three Lakers made their season or Grand Valley debut at the Mike Lints Alumni Meet, including
Lilly Alberts,
Madelyn Frens and
Andrew Hylen.
800m –
Lilly Alberts shined in her first appearance as a Laker, taking the event win with an NCAA Championship-qualifying finish of 2:11.64. Her time also etched her name into GVSU's record books as the tenth fastest in program history.
Cara Newman was the next to finish, placing second at 2:15.63.
Jordyn Hopgood was the only other athlete to represent GVSU in the women's 800m; she finished seventh at 2:18.15.
Eight Laker men competed in the 800m.
Tinsae Nelson was the first to finish in the squad, placing ninth with a time of 1:54.53. Next were
Drennan Akins (1:55.26),
Colin Vanderschaaf (1:55.30),
Ethan Parker (1:55.31) and
Tyler Heath (1:55.59) who grabbed the 11-12-13 and 14 spots.
Adair Artis (1:56.09),
Logan Tracia (1:56.55) and
Lleyton Axline (1:57.00) placed 16, 19 and 23, respectively.
1 Mile – Four Laker ladies showed out in the 1 mile, grabbing spots four through seven all at personal-best times.
Landyn Howell was the first to cross the line, finishing fourth at 4:57.91.
Maria Widmann was close behind and finished fifth at 4:58.70. Next was
Maggie O'Malley, who finished sixth at 5:02.14.
Annika Sandman rounded out the group with a seventh-place 5:03.46 finish.
The men also impressed, filling four of the top five spots. Báhozhóni Church finished at a personal-best, NCAA-qualifying, first-place time of 4:07.58.
Zac Zemba was close behind, finishing third at 4:11.98.
Gabriel Connelly and
Sean Marquardt were the other two Lakers to fill up the top five, finishing fourth and fifth at 4:12.35 and 4:15.60.
Brock Wooderson and finished eighth at a personal-best 4:17.54 and Dan Lambert finished 12
th at 4:23.37.
3000m –
Madelyn Frens was the sole Laker to compete in the women's 3000m. In her first competitive appearance since 2023, Frens finished second at 10:19.60.
The men had four Lakers compete in the 3000m.
Joey Rinke led the squad with a third-place finish at 8:36.11 – a personal-best.
Justin Hoffman was next to cross the line for the Lakers, finishing fifth at 8:41.45.
Nathan Jenkins and
Andrew Hylen finished seventh and 10
th at 8:47.34 and 8:51.31.
Sprints/Hurdles
Grand Valley's sprints and hurdles squads captured 21 top-10 finishes through four events (not including preliminary qualifying events).
60m Dash – Just two Lakers competed in the women's 60m dash, but both advanced to the finals.
Taylor Kyle won the event with a 7.61 time and
Zoe Zeiser grabbed seventh with an 8.05 finish.
Three of seven Lakers in the men's 60m dash prelims advanced to the finals.
Jacody Sikora was the first Laker to finish in the finals, finishing fifth at 6.93.
Chrisly Kelly-Cannon was close behind, grabbing sixth at 6.98. Nicolas Walper rounded out the event for the team, finishing eighth at 7.12.
60m Hurdles – All four Laker ladies who competed in the 60m hurdles preliminary round advanced to the finals. In the finals,
Brooke Barkocy finished first at 8.90.
Destini Dorkins and
Kennedy Gardner were close behind, capturing second and third place at 9.11 and 9.30.
Hannah Hollister was the last Laker to cross the line, finishing fifth at 9.50.
Joshua Hurt and
Tayshawn Bester both competed in the 60m hurdles preliminaries and advanced to the finals. Hurt finished third at 8.07 and Bester finished ninth at 13.57. In the preliminaries, Bester finished at 8.59.
200m – The women kicked things off in the 200m and did so in true Laker fashion. The ladies swept the podium;
Claire Neumann placed first (25.09),
Jayla Graham took second (25.44) and
Melia Williams placed third (25.51).
Kate Aniolkowski also finished in the top 10, finishing eighth at 26.54.
Hannah Hollister (26.71) and
Ashtyn Gluck (26.91) finished 13 and 16 overall.
The men also impressed again, grabbing three of the top five spots in the event as well as 11
th place.
Vincent Giuliano won the meet with a 21.67 finish, followed by
Jacody Sikora and
Andrew Pizzico's third-and-fourth place finishes at 22.20 and 22.28.
Tayshawn Bester finished 11
th overall at 22.88.
400m – Four Lakers recorded top-10 finishes in the men's and women's 400m. The women started the event off with a first and seventh place finish.
Catherine Guckenberger won the individual event with a 57.02 finish and
Kate Aniolkowski crossed the line at 1:00.25 to place seventh. The men also grabbed two spots in the top-10.
Desmond Chapa finished second at 48.58 and
Elija Strong took 10
th at 51.05.
