ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Grand Valley State softball team won both games Thursday (Feb. 20) afternoon on day one at the Lewis Dome Tournament in Rosemont, Illinois. The Lakers improve to 2-2 on the season after defeating Minnesota State Moorhead 2-0 in game one and Minnesota Duluth 2-0 in game two.
Game One vs Minnesota State Moorhead – W, 2-0
The Lakers scored both of their two runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Faith Edwards led the inning off with a triple. Two batters later,
Carsyn Segorski singled for her first RBI of the season put open the scoring. Segorski would advance to third on two passed balls.
Madelynn Pope would single later in the inning to bring home Segorski.
Freshman pitcher
Karli Dorr was dominate in the circle shutting out MSU Moorhead allowing just three hits with 10 strikeouts and zero walks. Dorr picked up her first collegiate win and first complete game shutout.
Carsyn Segorski drove in the game-winning run and scored a run, while
Faith Edwards hit her second extra base hit of the season.
Game Two vs Minnesota Duluth – W, 2-0
GVSU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring both runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Madelynn Pope got things started with a one out walk. After advancing to second on a groundout, Pope would score next at bat off a single by
Elizabeth Wesoloski to open the scoring. Later in the inning,
Grace Usher drove in her first career RBI with a single to score Wesoloski.
Nevaeh Ingram was dominate in the circle for GVSU in game two tossing her first complete game shutout of the season. Ingram picked up her first win after tossing all seven innings allowing no runs off just one hit with eight strikeouts.
Elizabeth Wesoloski batted 2-2 with a run scored and the game-winning RBI.
Morgan Spicer notched a hit, while
Grace Usher recorded her first hit and RBI in her collegiate career.
The Lakers will be back at the Lewis Dome Tournament tomorrow (Feb. 21) for two games. GVSU will take on Truman State at 4:30 PM ET / 3:30 PM CT and St. Cloud State at 7:00 PM ET / 6:00 PM CT.
