KENOSHA, WIS. – The GVSU women's basketball team dropped their second game of the year this afternoon, falling on the road at Parkside, 79-77.
It was a big offensive quarter for both teams in first, both shooting over 50% from the floor over the opening 10 minutes. Neither team could get much of a run, never leading by more than two possessions. A late three from
Kathryn Schmidt put the Lakers up late in the quarter, as they led 24-21 after one.
The two defenses buckled down to start the second period, with only six combined points being scored over the first four minutes. Leading by five at 28-23, the Lakers started turning defense into offense, going on a 10-2 run to push their lead up to 38-25. Parkside answered back to cut it to 10 at the break, with the Lakers up 44-34.
The turning point in the game was the third quarter, as the Rangers outscored GVSU 28-15 to lead 62-59 heading to the fourth.
Parkside led by as many as seven in the fourth, but GVSU battled back to take a 77-75 lead late in the quarter off a three from
Abrie Cabana. The Rangers tied the game at 77 off two free throws, then hit a runner on their final shot to close out the game.
Abrie Cabana led the way with 15 points, while
Rylie Bisballe had 14 points and six rebounds.
Nicole Kamin scored 11, adding eight rebounds and three assists.
