The Big Meet will feature several Grand Valley State athletes and event squads that are the best in the NCAA and Division II.

GVSU's throws crews are the most impressive, per the USTFCCCA. Ranked #1 in the nation, the men's weight throw squad leads Division II with a total distance of 77.96m (255-9) and an average throw of 19.49m (63-11.5). James MacKey, Jr. currently leads the squad with a 20.52m (67-4) mark that he achieved at December's season opener (GVSU Holiday Open).

On the women's side, shot put is the event to watch. The crew leads Division II with an average distance of 14.83m (48-8) and a total of 59.32m (194-8). Erika Beistle leads the squad, and all of Division II, with a school-best 17.20m (56-5.25) shot put achieved at home on January 24.

Another #EventSquad to watch is the women's 3000m, which is also ranked first in the nation. The women's squad has compiled a total 3k time of 37:53.04 for an average 9:28.26 finish. Lauren Kiley leads all-conditions in DII with a 9:13.90 best, followed by Natalie Graber's #2 ranking 9:17.37 season-best. Maria Mitchell takes the number four spot in Division II (all-conditions) with a personal-best 9:29.05 finish.

Grand Valley State's high jumpers have also received national attention, and for good reason. The men's squad is ranked first in Division II with an average height of 2.23m (7-3.75). The total height of the team prior to this weekend sits at 8.91m (29-2.75). The heights can be credited toward the four athletes that have cleared at least 2.20m (7-2.5) this season: Eli Kosiba (2.30m, 7-6.5), Marcus Gelpi (2.24m, 7-4.25), Jonathan Rankins-James (2.20m, 7-2.5) and Jaivon Harrison (2.12m, 6-11.5). All are ranked in the top three in Division II and top-15 across all divisions.

Men's pole vaulters have been impressive this season, as well. Currently the best squad in the nation, the group has cleared a collective 20.13m (66-0.5), with each student-athlete at an average 5.03m (16-6). The squads four leaders include DII's ninth-ranked Dolan Gonzales (5.15m, 16-10.75), number 10 Wyatt Alwine (5.11m, 16-9.25), 14-ranked Colton Emeott (5.01m, 16-4.75) and Camryn Battjes (4.86m, 15-11.25).

In addition to the individuals listed above, more than 35 of Grand Valley's student-athletes rank in the USTFCCCA Division II Top 25.
