ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team is back in action this Wednesday (Dec. 17) when they host Malone at 6:00 PM at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege and can be listened live on Thunder Country 107.3.

GVSU had last week off after opening their GLIAC schedule the weekend prior. The Lakers defeated Lake Superior State 85-79 in the GLIAC opener before falling 81-80 to Saginaw Valley State. GVSU is 7-1 on the season and 1-1 in the GLIAC. The Lakers are averaging 82 points per game 45% shooting from the field. GVSU leads the GLIAC forcing 17.1 turnovers and swiping 11.3 steals.

Trevor Smith Jr. who is averaging 13.6 points to start the season. Smith Jr. is shooting 58.7% from the field which ranks second in the conference and has scored in double figures in seven of the eight games. Graduate forward
Ethan Alderink is averaging 13.3 points and five rebounds on 48% shooting from the field and 43% shooting from three-point range. Senior forward
Jalen Charity has scored 13.1 points and leads the team with 5.4 rebounds on 50% shooting from the field. Charity ranks fourth in the GLIAC shooting 88% from the free throw line. Senior guard
Mason Docks leads the GLIAC averaging 4.5 assists and a 3.6 assist/turnover ratio.
Malone is 7-2 to begin the season and 3-1 in the GMAC. The Pioneers are scoring 69.6 points per contest while shooting 46% from the field. Malone ranks 10
th in the country allowing just 61.1 points per game. The Pioneers split last weekend's pair of GMAC games, defeating Cedarville 68-67 before falling to Lake Erie 87-65. Nic Williams leads Malone averaging 14.3 points on 44% shooting from the field and 38.9% shooting from three. Williams has scored in double figures in eight of the nine games. Emmanuel Oladeru has notched 12.7 points and 7.6 rebounds on 61.9% shooting from the field. Josiah Pierre is averaging 10.9 points and a team leading 7.9 rebounds on 51.6% shooting from the field.
