#22 Lakers Defeat Grace Christian 100-46 Sunday

ALLENDALE – The No. 22 Grand Valley State men's basketball team closed out the month of November with a 100-46 home win against Grace Christian Sunday (Nov. 30) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 6-0 on the season for the first time since the 2013-14 season. 
 
Jalen Charity tied a career high 20 points to lead all scorers on 6-7 shooting from the field and a perfect 8-8 shooting from the free throw line. Charity hauled in seven rebounds, swiped three steals, and blocked a career high three shots. Trevor Smith Jr. scored 14 points on 6-9 shooting from the field and swiped two steals. Mason Docks added eight points and dished out a game high six assists. Payton Weemer posted eight points and seven rebounds in the win.
 
GVSU shot 47% from the field and 88% from the free throw line. Grace Christian shot 31% from the field and 25% from three-point range. The Lakers outrebounded the Tigers 48-34 and 14-10 in offensive rebounds. GVSU forced Grace Christian to commit 27 turnovers and dominated in the paint, outscoring the Tigers 46-22. 
 
The Lakers jumped out to a 14-3 start after a steal and made layup by Trevor Smith Jr. five minutes into the game. Grace Christian would answer by going on a 12-2 run to cut the Laker lead to 20-19 with nine minutes to go in the opening half. GVSU answered by going on a 12-2 run to go back up double digits at 34-21 off five straight points by Smith Jr. Jalen Charity would put the Lakers up 20 with 33 seconds left in the first half after a driving layup that counted plus the foul. GVSU would take a 46-25 lead into halftime.
 
In the second half, GVSU went on a 19-2 run over seven minutes to take a commanding 68-31 lead with just over 12 minutes to play in the game. The Lakers would extend the lead to 40 points on a driving layup by Smith Jr. and midrange jump shot by Payton Weemer. GVSU would take their largest lead of the game at 55 points off a BJ Walker offensive rebound and made layup with under two minutes remaining. 
 
GVSU will open up their conference schedule next weekend when they host Lake Superior State on Thursday, December 4th at 7:30 PM at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers will then host Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, December 6th at 3:00 PM. Both games will be streamed live on FloCollege and can be listened live on Thunder Country 107.3.
