ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball is set to open their home schedule this week when they host Lewis on Wednesday, November 26
th at 3:00 pm and Grace Christian on Sunday, November 30
th at 1:00 pm.
The Lakers off to a 4-0 start to the season which is the best start since the 2021-22 season. GVSU defeated Minnesota State 76-55 and Sioux Falls 77-73 last weekend in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Senior guard
Mason Docks was named the GLIAC defensive player of the week for the first time this season after tying a career high five steals against Sioux Falls and two steals and four rebounds against Minnesota State.
GVSU is averaging 75 points per game through the first four games and have allowed just 62 points. The Lakers are shooting 45% from the field and 80% from the free throw line. The defense is holding their opponents to a 36% clip from the field and 20% from three-point range. GVSU leads the GLIAC forcing 17.5 turnover a game and 11.8 steals per game.
Trevor Smith Jr. lead the Lakers averaging 13.5 points on 60% shooting from the field and 80% from three-point range. Smith Jr. is second on the team with eight assists and six steals.
Ethan Alderink has notched 11.8 points and 4.5 rebounds on 52% shooting from the field and 54% from behind the arc. Alderink dropped 18 points last game in the win at Sioux Falls including two big threes down the stretch to help GVSU come out with a win.
Jalen Charity has put up 11.8 points and leads GVSU with 5.3 rebounds on 40% shooting from the field and 90% shooting from the free throw line. Charity scored in double figures in both wins last weekend against Minnesota State.
Mason Docks ranks first in the GLIAC with a 4.5 assist/turnover ratio and is second averaging 4.5 assists per game.
Lewis enters Wednesday's game with an 0-3 record. The Flyers fell 72-60 last week to Saginaw Valley State in their home opener. Lewis is averaging 60 points on 40% shooting from the field and 31% from three. The Flyers are led by Arius Alijosius who is scoring 18 points a game on 45% shooting from the field and 54% shooting from three. Collin Albert has notched 17.3 points and 3.3 rebounds this season. Albert leads the Flyers with 11 assists on the season and four steals. Ryan Hall has added 8.3 points on 42% shooting through the first three games.
Grace Christian is 5-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play so far this season. The Tigers are averaging 79.6 points on 44% shooting from field and 30% shooting from three. Grace Christian has forced their opponents to commit 17.5 turnovers a game while swiping over 10 steals. Keontae Richards leads the Tigers averaging 18 points on 44% shooting from the field and 74% from the free throw line. Brayden Gable has notched 17.5 points and 6.4 rebounds on 57% shooting. Aiden Burns has scored 13.5 points on 37% shooting from the field.
