Lakers Travel to South Dakota For Pair of Nonconference Games

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team hits the road to South Dakota for a pair of nonconference games. The Lakers will face Minnesota State in a neutral site game on Friday, November 21st at 6:00 PM and a road game against Sioux Falls on Saturday, November 22nd at 8:00 PM.
 
GVSU tipped off their 2025-26 season last weekend with a pair of wins to begin the season 2-0. The Lakers opened the season with a 74-55 neutral site win against Ashland followed by a 75-66 win at Indianapolis. Mason Docks led GVSU with 19 points with four three-pointers and three assists in the opening win against Ashland. Docks would swipe a career high five steals in the win at Indianapolis.
Trevor Smith Jr. scored in double figures in both wins. Smith Jr. notched 12 points on 4-6 shooting from the field against Ashland, and 16 points on 8-11 shooting against Indianapolis. Jalen Charity led GVSU grabbing seven rebounds in both wins and scored 13 points against Indianapolis shooting a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. 
 
Minnesota State is 4-1 to begin the season. The Mavericks have won three straight games and are averaging 80 points per game on 46% shooting from the field and 32% from three-point range. Malcolm Jones leads Minnesota State scoring 17.2 points per game on 62% shooting from the field while also grabbing eight rebounds. Traijan Sain has notched 14.3 points on 59% shooting from the field and over three rebounds a game. 
 
Sioux Falls has started the season 0-2 with losses to Pittsburg State and Central Missouri. The Cougars are averaging 76 points on 47% shooting from the field. Taylen Ashley leads Sioux Falls scoring 20 points on 45% shooting from the field and five rebounds. Brogan Madson has notched 17 points and three rebounds shooting 50% from the field. Brandon Hrncir has added 13 points and eight rebounds on 72% shooting.
