Grand Valley State concluded the regular season last week, falling on the road at Wayne State, then bouncing back to defeat Purdue Northwest on Saturday. The Lakers are now 18-8 overall and finished 12-4 in GLIAC play. Freshman Gabby Orlet earned her second GLIAC Setter of the Week award, after recording 81 assists, 17 digs, 10 kills, two blocks, and two service aces across the two games. GVSU is fighting for a spot in the NCAA Regional Tournament, sitting in 10th in the most recent regional rankings.

The Lakers swept Davenport this season, winning in four sets on the road, then taking the home match in straight sets. In the two matches, Kendall Stover totaled 24 kills and 23 digs, while Meghan O'Sullivan had 18 kills. Grace Busold posted 25 digs and Brianna Stawski had 18 total blocks.

Davenport ended the regular season at 13-14 overall and 9-7 in the conference, earning the fifth seed in the tournament. The Panthers enter the playoffs having won two straight, but they had lost seven of their previous eight matches before last weekend. DU has struggled on the road this season, going just 3-7 in true road contests. Abby Alan leads the team and ranks ninth in the GLIAC with 287 kills. She is the top target for setter Madison Berry, who has 9.43 assists per set, fourth in the league.

In the previous three quarterfinal matchups between the Lakers and Panthers, GVSU has advanced to the next round twice. Davenport won the 2021 matchup in four sets, then the Lakers beat them in 2022 in five sets, and again last season in three sets.
