Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

#3 Lakers Shutout Purdue Northwest 2-0 Sunday

HAMMOND, Ind. – The No. 3 Grand Valley State women's soccer won their sixth straight game and fifth consecutive shutout after defeating Purdue Northwest 2-0 on the road Sunday (Oct. 5) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 8-1 on the season and 5-0 in the GLIAC.
 
GVSU struck first early in the fifth minute to take a 1-0 lead. Sarah Fromm played a great ball to Alli French on the left side of the box. French got passed the last defender and beat the goalkeeper towards the bottom left of the goal for her fourth goal of the season. Fromm picked up her second assist and team leading 12th point. 
 
GVSU would add to the lead midway through the first half in the 25th minute. Kendall Aikens received a pass from Acadia Murphy and fired a shot from way outside the box that went up and through the goalkeeper's hands and into the back of the net. Aikens netted her first goal of the season, while Murphy dished out her first assist of the season for her first career point as a Laker. 
 
GVSU outshot Purdue Northwest 8-0 in the first half and 2-0 in corner kicks. Both teams played to a scoreless second half as the Lakers would hold on for the two-goal win. GVSU outshot the Pride 15-3 in the game and 3-0 on target. Macie Hunter got the start for GVSU in goal and picked up her fifth consecutive shutout.
 
Vesna Dennison led GVSU with three shots in 72 minutes played. French scored her third game-winning goal of the season and recorded two shots. Kendall Aikens added a goal on two shots in 61 minutes played. Mackenzie Ford and Acadia Murphy appeared in all 90 minutes of action.
 
GVSU will be back on the road next week for one game as they travel to face rival Ferris State on Friday, October 10th. First kick is slated for 1:00 PM in Big Rapids, Michigan. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
