#4 Lakers Extend Win Streak to Seven with 2-1 Win at Ferris State

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 4 Grand Valley State women's soccer defeated rival Ferris State 2-1 on the road Friday (Oct. 10) afternoon to extend their wins streak to seven games. The Lakers improve to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the GLIAC.

The two teams played a scoreless first half with GVSU leading 7-3 in shots with 3-1 on target. Cora Conley got the first good scoring chance for the Lakers in the 14th minute, but her shot was stopped by the keeper.

In the second half, GVSU would open the scoring in the 50th minute off the foot of Kacy Lauer. Off a corner kick, Alex Williams sent a ball to the back side of the box that was headered by Mackenzie Ford and right to Lauer who kicked it home to give the Lakers the 1-0 lead. That goal was Lauer's third of the season.

GVSU would double the lead in the 77th minute off the foot of Ivy Wilhelm. Shea Douglass sent a cross from the left side that was cleared away by a Bulldog defender. The clear went to Wilhelm from just outside the box. Wilhelm fired a shot that hit the top right of the crossbar and into the back of the net for her third goal of the season. Ferris State would cut the Laker lead in half in the 85th minute, but GVSU would hang on for the one-goal win.

Wilhelm scored her second game-winning goal of the season as GVSU outshot Ferris State 15-10 and 5-3 on goal. Corner kicks were even at five apiece between the two teams. Alli French led GVSU with three shots with one on target. Sarah Fromm and Vesna Dennison each recorded two shots. Mackenzie Ford added an assist and played all 90 minutes. Kacy Lauer scored on her lone shot and also played all 90 minutes. Acadia Murphy notched one shot in 90 minutes of action. Macie Hunter got the start in goal and made two saves to pick up her seventh straight win.

GVSU is off the rest of the weekend and will be back in action next week Friday, October 17th when they travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin to take on Parkside. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pM ET. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
